The Roadmap for Sustainable Biofuels / Bioenergy in Southern Africa – dialogue was convened on the 25th of November 2015, at the Wallenberg Research and Conference Centre in Stellenbosch. The Development and Rule of Law Programme (DROP) organized the dialogue, in cooperation with Konrad Adenauer Stiftung, the Stellenbosch University Biofuels Research Chair and the Stellenbosch University Water Institute. The underlying topic of the day was the interaction between science, technology, policy and law as a means of promoting development, with specific reference to biofuels in Southern Africa. A mixture of scientists, academics, economists, politicians and legal scholars and practitioners came together to discuss the challenges and opportunities for development provided by biofuels in Southern Africa. Stellenbosch University Vice-Rector of Research and Innovation, Professor Eugene Cloete, set the tone for the discussions of the day by emphasizing the role of universities in creating and sharing a wealth of knowledge with the world, and the importance of such knowledge-sharing in cultivating the thought leadership needed for society to adapt to a changing world (Author: Johann Krige, DROP).
