Final year LLB students critically and enthusiastically engaged during the 2015 Environmental Law Mini Conference, held at Stellenbosch University’s Law Faculty on the 25 September. Pollution control and waste management are essential for environmental protection as both are a threat to human health, plant and animal life and ecological systems. Law students investigated international, regional and South African law, calling for more effective implementation, enforcement and a new mindset away from “throwaway culture”. Solution spaces for instance for “energy from waste” require sound policy frameworks, as several of the presentations highlighted.
